In 2008, PIPE is celebrating our 15th anniversary, and we’re using it to kick off a stepped up five-year campaign of advocacy.  We are responding to a message to us from the community that had been consistent and clear – PIPE’s most important role is a champion for policies at Memphis City Schools that produce a district whose culture and operations are known for their leading edge innovation and improvements in student achievement.

What PIPE does…

Our business is advocacy – for improving public education in Memphis.

Our focus is school reform – particularly changes that improve student academic performance and graduation rates.

Our purpose is to create a “smart district” – a high-performing system that builds an engaged community, better governance, and a learning organization that supports school based innovation.

Our method is to ask tough questions, inspire new thinking, conduct rigorous research, insist on accountability, and act as an unrelenting voice for change.

Our measurement is unchanging – it’s squarely on students, whether their academic performance improves, dropouts decrease, or graduation rates climb.

In pursuit of these goals, we take public stands on important issues affecting education, we issue actionable research, we identify promising changes, and we stand foursquare for the interests of our children.
